Maxim Pastukhov - the abbot of the temple and the bodybuilder in one person
The rector of the temple, Maxim Shepherds, takes care not only of the spiritual health of his parishioners, but also of the physical.
Moreover, he himself is an excellent example of how religion and sport can be combined: not so long ago, Father Maxim took part in the field bodybuilding championship, where he took the honorable third place.
Staroskolsky tournament "CROSFIT". Maxim Pastukhov second right.
Priest Maxim Shepherd is the rector of the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God in the village of Ivanovka, Belgorod Region. In addition to serving in the church, he also trains local children, as well as young people from nearby villages. To this end, with the blessing of the Metropolitan of Belgorod and Starooskolsky John, he organized a sports Orthodox club named after St. Joasaph Belgorod.
Now there are about 20 people in the sport group - there could be more, but so far there is no possibility to rent a larger room.Training in the club looks the same as in ordinary rocking chairs - young people use different types of muscles on the simulators, use weights for exercises, keep records of the approaches. “My task is to educate children in Orthodox traditions, to make them strong physically and spiritually,” says Father Maxim. “They have a lot of free time, and if the energy is not sent in the right direction, then it will be wasted stupidly.”
“We meet five days a week, plus we hold a variety of activities on weekends. And still there is not enough space and opportunity to engage everyone. ”
Father Maxim goes to the sports club right after the services five times a week. But this is not limited to his communication with young people. In addition to conversations on philosophical and religious topics, and in addition to training in the hall, the village priest also goes on hikes with the children and helps them decide in life. “I consider this to be a kind of missionary work,” explains Father Maxim, “We have an Orthodox club, in addition to training, we talk a lot, the guys come to church services, participate in social projects, we go camping with tents. Sometimes the guys just want to consult about something, which is not always possible to ask their parents. "
The life of Maxim Pastukhov has always been inextricably linked with religion and with sport. After school, he graduated from the music college, spent quite a while writing his own music, mainly in the trance and new age style. At the same time, he regularly practiced freestyle wrestling, received a black belt karate. Moreover, he graduated from the school of sports instructors to have the official opportunity to train people in fitness and bodybuilding. And with all this, he always knew that he wanted to connect his future with faith. Therefore, at one time he entered the seminary, after which he served as deacon in Stary Oskol, and six years ago became the abbot of the church in the village of Ivanovka.
During these six years, the work of Maxim's father is more than obvious. Two years ago, his players took part in competitions in power all-around among the parishioners of rural churches, and the elder and the younger group won prizes. About a month ago, the sports club organized a 40-kilometer march across rough terrain - the guys coped with this task in five hours. In the Starooskolsky CROSFIT tournament, in which Maxim Pastukhov took third place, his students also took part - for them it was the first experience of a big serious competition.
Now Father Maxim hopes to win the Civil Initiative grant competition. In case of victory, the club will have the opportunity to purchase additional equipment for training. “Maybe someone will not agree with me, but I do not think that we should separate sports and worship,” says Father Maxim.
